Baking Soda and Vinegar Soda Bottle Rocket

Follow these steps to make your own Baking Soda and Vinegar Soda Bottle Rocket! This DIY is super creative and fun! Such a BLAST!!!

Materials You Need:

  • A plastic bottle (16 fl oz)
  • Paper/ construction paper
  • Markers
  • Scissors
  • Glue
  • Tape
  • Pens or pencils
  • Rubber band
  • Piece of plastic cut from a plastic bag
  • Paper towel
  • Baking soda (1 tablespoon)
  • Vinegar
  • Makeshift cork- paper towel, plastic wrap, tape

Instructions:

  1. Fill the bottle halfway with vinegar.
  2. Decorate the rocket by covering it with paper and using markers.
  3. Cut out three triangles to make wings and attach them to the side of the rocket.
  4. Securely tape the pens/ pencils to the side of the rocket, well enough to support a filled bottle.
  5. Make a baking soda pouch- cut the paper towel in half and place a small scoop of baking soda in the middle, fold and secure the sides with tape. It should look like a wrapped candy.
  6. Bring your rocket outside and carefully insert the baking soda pouch into the bottle, securing one end on the opening to keep the pouch from touching the vinegar. Don't worry, it won't launch until you flip the bottle.
  7. Stopper the bottle by covering the opening piece of plastic wrap and secure with a rubber band.
  8. If you want to make a makeshift cork, roll up a paper towel tightly. Then, cover this with plastic wrap and secure with tape.
  9. You are ready to launch! Flip the bottle upside down and start the count down from at least 2 meters away!
